Sometimes a great hunt has nothing to do with the largest trophy or the fullest game bag. Sometimes it’s not so much about the great shot or the wild chase. Sometimes a great hunt is just the accumulated experience… the smiles and laughter of time spent with family and new friends in a beautiful place.

That was the occasion on the weekend of October 17-18, as the Native Hunt ranch welcomed brothers Matt and John Matthews, and Matt’s two boys, Chris (12) and Josh (8). These guys are about as new to hunting as a person can get, having just earned their Hunter Safety certificates and picked up their licenses. They’re so new, in fact, that they don’t have their own rifles yet, and had to make do with rifles provided by the guides. But that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm or the willingness to get out and do whatever it took to make the hunt a success. As it turns out, they were definitely up for the challenge!

There’s a lot more I could write, but I think the following video says it… and shows it… much better than I ever could!

  1. Excellent recap Phillip, I especially enjoyed teaching the boys about Animal Tracking. I am a little rusty in the teaching department but soon got the hang of it and started having fun right along with them.

Cool music to the video as well!

  2. Congrats to Matt, John and Chris, and I’m sure Josh won’t be far behind. It’s nice to see and read about the great shooting they did. What a fabulous introduction to hunting. And Michael, you’re not rusty at all – I love learning about tracking from you – I ALWAYS pick up knowledge when I listen to you at the ranch.

What a perfect hunt to begin their hunting legacy. Like the video says 3 shots, 3 hogs, what more could you ask for. Its nice to see that the generations to come are interested and getting involved in the great outdoors
    God Bless

  5. Thanks Jordan and Rex for the visit and comments and Rex I have really been enjoying the Deer Camp stories for about a year now.
I hope to continue for years to come!

This is a terrific example of Native Hunt’s wide range of capabilities. I took a couple clients down to the Jolon Ranch earlier in the year. I hadn’t hunted in years and neither had one of my clients. We were treated to a great hunt with patient and educational ph’s who really knew what they were doing and enjoyed it as well. I’ve fished all over the world and seen some of the bad attitudes that can be displayed toward eager novices by supposed professional guides. None of that at Native Hunt. They’re all about setting up the hunt that will put the hunter in a position to be successful no matter what their level of experience is and have a great day doing it.

    Thanks Andrew,

It sure is nice when the effort and hard work we put into a hunt is noticed! :-)

  8. Holly,
I am still planning to start a “Tracking and Nature Awareness” camp in the near future, but this crazy economy keeps stalling those plans.
